When there is a problem connecting to the Internet via Dialup, you are normally presented with a numeric error code and message. This section explains some of the most common error codes and remedies.

Please take the following steps to troubleshoot this problem:

bulletConfirm that you are using the correct username and password. The username includes all that is before and after the '@' symbol. The password is case sensitive.

Please take the following steps to troubleshoot this problem:

bulletYou may want to try connecting at a different time of day, or you may want to try using an alternate access number.

 
bulletTo check whether your access number is working, dial the number directly using your telephone instead of your modem. If you do not hear modem handshaking sounds, then there may be a temporary problem with the access number. You should try again later, or try connecting using a different access number.

 
bulletIf you hear a modem pick up on the other end when you dial—either with your modem or with your telephone—but are still unable to connect, your modem may not be properly configured. You should review your modem configuration.

 
bulletYou may have to update your modem's drivers. Your modem manufacturer should be able to instruct you as to how to update your modem drivers.
